We believe...
that there is a real hunger among women everywhere to finally give themselves permission to be the fully powerful and amazing beings that they are, and that Time for Our Power! is part of a larger transformation that is happening in this country and around the world. Women all over are waking up to their power!

We believe that there is no force more powerful than a woman who believes in herself, follows her passion and brings her unique gifts to the world. In doing so not only does she benefit, but so do all those around her - her family, friends, community, and ultimately the world.

We also believe that humankind's existence on this planet has never been in such jeopardy. The perils are clear: environmental degradation, global warming, war, nuclear proliferation, widespread human rights abuses. Women are uniquely positioned to spark a much needed revolution in human consciousness. The world is in critical need of feminine energy and perspective, and it has never been more important for us to claim and own our power to bring about change.

Its time!

THE RED TENT

The Red Tent, constructed from beautiful fabrics, carpets and pillows, will provide a nurturing and peaceful place where women can go to recharge, meditate or commune quietly at any time during the conference. Low lighting, bowls of rose petals and beautiful altars will help set the tone. Around the perimiter of the tent, women can partake of such services as massage, reflexology and more, all offered by women in our community for a suggested donation.

The idea for this sanctuary came from the similarly-named Red Tent at the 'Women & Power: Our Time to Lead' Conference in New York City, which two of the planners of this conference were blessed to experience in 2004. The Red Tent at that conference was in turn inspired by Anita Diamant's novel of the same name.

Set in biblical times, The Red Tent is a first-person narrative which tells the story of Dinah, daughter of Jacob and sister of Joseph, a talented midwife and proto-feminist. The book's title refers to the tent in which women of Jacob's tribe must, according to the ancient law, take refuge while menstruating or giving birth, and in which they find mutual support and encouragement from their mothers, sisters and aunts.

This will be the only area of the conference strictly reserved for women (nothing personal, guys!)
